Homecoming is at the door and you don’t have a date!

The panic of finding a date for homecoming is not for the weak. From left on read messages to getting a dress before you have a date, door dates seem like last resort and a saving grace.

The hunt for a homecoming date can turn to a race. You want to be in a group with your friends, but you don’t want to worry about if you’re going to go in a group with some random boy you don’t know.

Some girls don’t get so lucky with a formal homecoming proposal, including myself. A door date takes away the significance and tradition of homecoming.

Some would say it is degrading begging a boy to take them to their dance. But – I’m not above the tactic.

Marian Gnimocemoh is what we have. It is a fun, informal, themed dance that does not require a date or a fancy dress.

For girls also wanting the traditional homecoming dance with dresses and a date, instead they try to opt for Creighton Prep’s or Mount Michael’s homecoming dances.

Mount Micheal doesn’t require a date for any grade level.

For freshmen, Prep’s dance doesn’t require a date so girls can go without worry. For sophomores, juniors and seniors, the requirement of a date adds another level of stress.

Imagine, you are anxiously waiting for a response from a boy you don’t know very well after asking them to their own school dance. Maybe the date was someone from middle school or a blind date, someone out of convenience who would agree to go in the group all your friends are going in. Those moments of waiting have you thinking of other people to text or if it is even worth it to go through all this trouble.

I have four years of experience under my belt with no sign at my door, but on the bright side, I have always gotten in (never with a truly desired date), but I have always had fun.

At the end of the day, when your dinner is paid for (since it is the gentlemanly thing to do), and you get into the dance, the panic is over and you can finally have fun ’til next year.
