It seems that opinions are all the rage right now. Why? I do not know, but I am sure someone somewhere has an extremely strong opinion on this topic.
It is not that I hate opinions, in fact this article is 100 percent an opinion. However, I greatly dislike the idea that in today’s society you have to have a strong opinion on every aspect of life, or else you are deemed “out of it,” indecisive, or apathetic. People form opinions on everything from where to shop to whether you like your left foot or right foot better.
Yes, it is important to be able to think for yourself, but oftentimes it is not even our own thoughts we are expressing, rather those of our peers or superiors. Be educated on your topic before you voice your position on it.
When it comes to more serious opinions, such as politics or religion, the only acceptable way to find your stance is to look at a situation from every perspective. Then, and only then, can you voice your thoughts.
If someone else disagrees with you, learn to accept it and move on. Don’t bash someone’s opinion just because it differs from your own. Listen to them.
No, it does not mean that they are ignorant just because your opinions don’t align like the stars. Besides, if everyone agreed on everything, food fights would have never been invented, and wow, what a sad world that would be.
Another important thing is that you don’t have to pick a favorite. Chocolate or vanilla? WHY NOT TWIST? Enjoy every aspect of life. Enjoy winter and summer, singing and dancing, crying and laughing. You don’t have to pick a favorite of anything — no ONE aspect of life is like another.
Get a different experience out of everything.
Yes, I am well aware that this entire written article is an ironic mess, but it does hold some truth. We overlook other’s opinions to voice our own and that is a real tragedy. Yes, it is acceptable to have an opinion, but not if you can’t listen to others.
