Nebraska has always been an epicenter of volleyball throughout America. Between major events like the President’s Day Volleyball Tournament and housing the powerhouse that is the Nebraska Cornhusker Volleyball team, there is no shortage of talent. This has not gone unnoticed by the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF), who made a major announcement for the state on July 20.
The PVF announced that Omaha will be getting its own professional volleyball team. The team’s name was announced to be the Omaha Supernovas at the CHI Health Center, which was also revealed to be the team’s home court.

“Omaha Supernovas embody both the players on our team and reflect this historic moment in sports,” team President Diane Mendenhall said in a press release. “Nationally, there is this huge explosive energy around volleyball, and the PVF allows the best of the best athletes to shine brightly.”
Mendenhall is excited for the upcoming season and is looking forward to the impact it has on young girls throughout Nebraska. “Our young girls can dream of being shining stars, playing professionally and winning championships with the most knowledgeable and passionate fans in the stratosphere,” she said. “This is our time.”
The team’s roster is packed with household names in volleyball. Players have come across America and international boundaries to be a part of the team. Many players have received awards from the Big Ten and NORCECA Volleyball Confederation. Some athletes have received the All-American award and participated on other country’s national teams.
The Supernovas will be competing against teams in Dallas, Atlanta, San Diego, Orlando, Grand Rapids, and Columbus. Two more teams are expected to be announced in the upcoming weeks.
The team received some publicity through the involvement of co-owner and musician, Jason Derulo. Derulo has become involved in the volleyball scene after making an appearance at Nebraska Elite Volleyball club and promoting the Supernovas through Jason Derulo jerseys that are listed on their site.
Though the team is announced to be playing in February, fans are already excited for the upcoming season. The Instagram account for the supernovas has already racked up 3,795 followers as of Aug. 13, despite not making any official appearances as a full team yet.
If you are interested in the Supernovas, deposits for season tickets are available at supernovas.com. The prices for season tickets range from $150-$1,500 depending on the desired location.
The Supernovas are sure to make a big impact on the PVF and young volleyball players throughout Nebraska.
