Sweet treat, you say, you’ll catch the Marian girls running. In September, Marian’s goal for Walk-A-Thon was to raise $105,000 in five weeks. WAT money is raised and is given back to the girls who receive the tuition assistance.
There are many ways the students raise money for WAT but the most fun-filled one would be the bake sale. The bake sale gives the girls a chance to work together to raise money. They bring anything they can think of: treats, stickers, drinks, jewelry and more.

Ella Watton, one of the sophomore class officers, shares that whether big or small, it all helps. “If you bring something in, that is going to help our class inevitably in the end.” The success of the bake sales are up to the creativity and effort that the class brings.
The bake sales play an important role in funding. All the classes support by buying the goodies that are provided. Donations can provide an extra boost to help people reach their goals.
“I enjoy the bake sales because we get to support other classes as well as our school as a whole,” sophomore Kaitlyn Bendon said.
Each class has a theme and the more creative the better. The girls can bring decorations to give their bake sale more flare and brightness. This year the class themes were Hawaiian for freshmen, Under the Sea for sophomores, Candyland for juniors and Rodeo for seniors.
The girls then set up the bake sales every Friday through the week of September going seniors, juniors, sophomores, and then freshmen. The bake sale is open all day so whenever girls get the chance in study hall or in between classes, they can stop by. It is also open before school and during lunch.
By the end of the day, the classes had major success that helped them towards their goal. The freshman made $1,658.92, the sophomores made $1,754.16, the juniors made $1,927.40, and the seniors made $2,339.70. These totals came from the business office and the Student Board moderators, and not all of the Venmo proceeds are added into these totals.
Walk-A-Thon has a big place in Marian girls’ hearts. It is a tradition that brings girls together as a community to help future students like them. This tradition will continue for years to come, helping more and more. Whenever Walk-A-Thon rolls around, get your money ready for donations and a sweet treat from a bake sale.
