Every day, Marian girls race to the cafeteria in hopes of beating the lunch rush. Many girls become impatient as they wait for their turn in the lunch line. Here’s where lunch line etiquette comes into play. To shorten it up, don’t cut or hold up the line.

Freshmen and juniors line up on the microwave side while sophomores and seniors line up on the other side. It becomes frustrating when students line up in the wrong line because the lines are specifically split up to help even out the students.

Some days the lunch lines are worse than others. Marian Moms lunch is one of those days. Sophomore Leyla Zier said, “Marian Moms lunch is especially stressful because you don’t want to be far back in the line. If you get stuck in the back of the line, you are left with almost no time to eat.” With this fear, girls are willing to do anything to avoid the back of the line. Some students resort to sneaking in the line with their friends.

“It’s annoying when people cut in line because everyone else has to wait in line, but they think they shouldn’t have to,” sophomore Leah Martinez said.

Zier and Martinez agreed that another thing at lunch that annoys them is when people don’t move along with the line. Don’t be the person who holds up the line. Chatting in large groups can be a source of this problem. There is no need to make a mob to discuss the latest gossip. You can wait till you get to your lunch table.

“If everyone learns basic lunch line etiquette, we could get our food faster and have more time to eat,” sophomore Eliana Xydakis said. Lunch can be a way less stressful experience if everyone practices basic lunch etiquette.
