Students were shocked when Principal Mrs. Susie Sullivan announced that Walk-A-Thon will tie into Field Day once again. Last year, a new rule was made where there was no connection to Field Day due to complications surrounding competition. However, students started to lack motivation to bring in donations.

Halfway through this year, the student board came to Sullivan with concerns of not making the Walk-A-Thon goal. Sullivan said, “All though I was reluctant at first, I did realize, sometimes as a leader you have to compromise.” At the end of the day, the money goes to making sure students can have the opportunity for scholarships and to stay at Marian. In order to motivate girls, they had to incorporate a little competition. Stubo convinced Sullivan that this change was absolutely worth it.

On Tuesday, Sept 17, Sullivan changed the game by including the results from Walk-A-Thon in Color Block. In order to keep the peace of friendly competition, the compromise was to not announce the Walk-A-Thon winning class until Color Block. The class with the highest percentage of their goal raised will get first pick on color and theme.

In a matter of hours, classes were racing to be at the top. Group chats were instantly buzzing, especially the class officers. After receiving the news, junior Class Officer Kelsey Bragg was ready to be on her A game. Bragg said, “I am excited to have the new rule back. The Field Day rule encourages the class to work together and achieve our goal.” Money instantly started to fly in as the competition got more intense.

Juniors and Seniors went neck and neck with their donations, fighting for that top spot, while sophomores and freshmen fell behind. However, in the end, the classes worked together to meet the school goal.  The winner of Walk-A-Thon will remain a mystery…..for now.
