Trick or treat! As we approach October, aka the best month of the entire year, there’s one common question running through group chats, hallways and Pinterest searches. What should you be for Halloween? 

To help your costume stresses, here are a few solo ideas to get the ball rolling. Obviously, Barbie. This costume is so versatile since Barbie is anything. Personally, I’ll be going as Princess Barbie. If you have a Ken, put some khakis and a button-up shirt on that boy. 

If you want to follow the princess route, Mia from The Princess Diaries is a classic. All you need is a white dress, white elbow gloves, sunglasses and some headphones with wires (I know, old school). Obviously, top it all off with a tiara. She’s a princess, of course! 

If you’re a blonde with fancy taste, Sharpay Evans is the one for you. This costume only requires a white dress or skirt, shorts and a tank top…whatever you feel fabulous in. Then, add a feather jacket, pink, of course. Complete the look with a pair of bedazzled white sunglasses, and you’re done. 

For the duos out there, try the twins from The Shining. Some spooky blue dresses will do the trick, along with some Mary Jane shoes and knee-high socks. Add some fake blood and you’ll be the creepiest (and best dressed) people at the party. 

Trios, try out the Sanderson sisters. Whip up some green, red, and purple dresses, and finally, break out the broom. However, please do not make potions with a dead man’s toe. Gross. With these crazy looks, you’ll enchant the entire party. If you’re planning on flying solo Halloween night, any witch will do. 

If getting extra dolled up is right up your alley, break out whatever pieces have a Y2K feel to them. The Bratz dolls are the costume for you. With some big platform shoes, low rise cargo pants, and a sparkly top, you’ll be the life of the party. 

For the girls who love themselves some fantasy, go for a fairy or pirate. Get whatever sparkly outfit you want and slap on some fairy wings. If you’re leaning towards an edgier side and want to be a pirate, go for a white skirt and flowy shirt. If you’re comfortable, layer a corset belt and accessorize with some knee-high boots. You’ll look great, matey. 

In honor of the Marian musical this year, Mamma Mia, get two other friends together and glam yourselves up to be Donna and the Dynamos. All you need is a sparkly jumpsuit and some gogo boots. Don’t forget your feather boa for one night, and one night only! 

This is a popular one, but Cher from Clueless is always a classic. Find yourself a yellow and plaid skirt and jacket. Knee high socks are easy to find and  style, especially for this costume. Some white shoes will compliment the look perfectly. If you’re more of a Dionne girl, replace the yellow plaid with black. Finish it off with a crazy hat with a red ribbon. Imagine not looking good? Ugh, as if! 

Even if you feel too old to be trick or treating, your awesome costume will be seen whether you hand out candy or even attend a party. Although no shame if you still trick or treat. Candy has no age limit. 

Nothing is scarier than a girl who doesn’t feel confident. Halloween is all about feeling great, fabulous and spooky, if you choose. Make sure your costume is something you feel good in. No tricks: if you feel great, you’ll look great, and you’ll get lots of treats.
